New Campaign of Arbitrary Arrests
shrc

The Syrian Intelligence authorities have been undertaking an arrest campaign on various levels in the past few days, which have included the arrest of the human rights activist and member of the Damascus Declaration Ghazi Qadoor (62 years) on Monday 11/8/2008 from his home in Aleppo, North Syria.

Dr. Na'eem Nasla was also arrested upon his arrival at Aleppo airport on 8/8/2008. He had been in the Czech Republic where he lives, works, and holds a Czech nationality. He was transferred to the ill reputed Palestine branch for interrogation.

The Political Security Intelligence also arrested the Kurdish citizens Jawan Abdo (a previous detainee) and Ra'id Fawaz al-Ali on 3/8/2008, and Markeen Mustafa and Salahidin Baro on 4/8/2008, all from the town of Aldirbasiah in North Syria.

The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) unequivocally condemns these arbitrary, repressive and unconstitutional arrests, and calls upon the Syrian Authorities to immediately release the above mentioned detainees and to stop all arbitrary arrests and detainments due to exercising the freedom of expression and general activism.
