The Syrian Human Rights Committee has learnt today that the Dentist Kaldon al-Jaza’iri was arrested on Tuesday 26th August 2008 from his house in Damascus.

His father the prominent professor Makki al-Hassani al-Jaza’iri is among the first generation of neuclear scientists in the region and a member in the Arabic language and Translation institutes in several Arabic universities. He is also the grandson of the striving Emir Abdul Qader al-Jaza’iri

In addition to being a dentist, Khalon is a knowleadgeable researcher who has contributed several studies and scholarly and religious researches. One of his most important reaserches is (Where to Habib al-Jafri?) which was introduced to by two prominent scholars Kureim Rajeh and the late Mustafa al-Khin. His opinions in the book could be the cause of his arrest!

The Syrian Human Rights Committee unequivocally denounces the detainment of the Dentist Khaldon al-Jaza’iri. It demands his immediate release and the lift of all bans in the way of expressing one’s opinion.
