The Supreme State Security non-constitutional Court (SSSC) issued extreme and harsh sentences against seven Syrian Kurdish activists, accusing them of attempting to split a section of Syrian land and annexing it to a foreign state due to their membership of The Kurdish Workers Party(P.K.K.) which is known in Syria under the name of Democratic United Party.
During its session on Tuesday 14/4/2009, the SSSC sentenced the two women Latifa Manaan and Zainab Huro to five years in prison, and sentenced Salih Mastu, Nouri Mustafa, Hussein and Rashid Binyaaf to six years in prison, and Mohammed Habash Rasho and Ibrahim Sheikh Alloush to seven years in prison.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) considers these sentences issued against the abovementioned ctizens as extremely harsh, unconstitutional and issued by the security and intelligence apparatus. SHRC calls upon the Syrian Authorities to terminate the SSSC and transfer citizens awaiting trial to a normal fair court and keep away from interference in the judiciary and justice.
